Pool Fence Requirements in Miami and Miami-Dade

Pool barrier rules can depend on the property, the type of project and the authority that has jurisdiction. Miami-Dade states that new pools, spas and hot tubs require a permanent barrier and describes a minimum 48-inch barrier height.

The 48-inch barrier rule

Miami-Dade County says the top of a required pool barrier must be at least 48 inches above grade, measured on the side facing away from the pool. Openings, gates and access from the home are also important parts of a compliant design.

Florida safety-feature requirements

Florida law provides residential swimming-pool safety feature options and separate barrier requirements. The correct option and permitting path should be confirmed for the specific property before installation.

Confirm before relying on a barrier for approval

Codes and interpretations can change. Homeowners should verify the current requirements with their city or Miami-Dade permitting office. Fence Pool Garcia can measure and discuss the installation layout, but this page is general information and not legal or permitting advice.
